Airspace Charts

Extract from BGA Laws & Rules

6.16 The Law

Aircraft Equipment. A glider shall be provided with ‘adequate equipment’ which includes maps, charts etc. necessary for the intended flight, including any diversion which may reasonably be expected.

Note: The above is an extract from the ANO covering only the most simple cases of glider flight (private flight and club instruction, by day). There are other requirements for aerial work or night flying for which the whole schedule should be consulted. The requirement for maps is commonly interpreted as being necessary for any glider flight more than 5 nautical miles from the gliding site.

VFR Charts are produced by the CAA. A summary of the latest editions is available on the CAA web site.

In addition to carrying the latest version of the chart, pilots should ensure that they are aware of any amendments to the chart. These are published on the CAA web site.
