Various letters of agreement detailing local arrangements governing access to wave windows enabling pilots to fly in category C
airspace (ie above FL195) are available in certain parts of the country. In addition to these, a number of local agreements governing access to areas of controlled air space are in force.
Maps showing details of the location of the wave windows are available
on the AIS web site (login required) as follows:
South of 5520N - AIP
Ref ENR-6-3-0-3
North of 5520N - AIP
Ref ENR-6-3-0-4
Coordinates defining the wave boxes are also available on the AIS web site as follows: AIP Ref ENR 5-2-4/7
Updated procedures for operating in these areas are
available in the UK AIP. This
is available on the AIS web site. Once you have opened the document
(ENR 1-1-1 ATS Routes and Upper Control Areas (UTA)), the procedures
can be found at section 9.
This download area contains pdf files of the text of all letters of agreement between the BGA (or its constituent clubs) and various ATC units around the country. It also contains data files for use in PDAs showing the areas of airspace covered by each LOA. The information is provided to allow pilots to prepare for visits to other clubs. In all cases, the pilot should ensure that they check with one of the signatory clubs for any recent revisions or special briefing requirements. Data files are provided in good faith, but may contain errors or may have become out of date. Pilots are responsible for checking the validity of the data that they are using. A check with the local club is essential.
If you spot any errors or omissions, or if you area aware that a Letter of Agreement is being renegotiated in your area, please contact Carr Withal or Kevin Hook (bgaairspace @ dsl.pipex.com remove spaces) so that we can keep this page up to date.
