The CAA Regulatory Impact Assessment consultation period ended at 5pm on the 29th of August
The CAA has reported that they received over 3,500 responses to the recent Mode S consultation. After filtering out duplicates, the final number of individual responses was approximately 3,000. A summary of responses will be produced by the year end following which there will be a review of the RIA and, in conjunction with the Government, a decision on further consultation.
There has been concern expressed by members regarding electronic submissions not being received by the CAA. To quote Max Seaman of the Directorate of Airspace Policy, CAA, who replied to a BGA query;
"I am part of the Mode S team within DAP. I am surprised that you have received reports of access issues with the 3rd-party website or the Mode S Inbox (mode.s@dap.caa.co.uk). I have monitored the site and inbox daily and received no feedback to indicate that there has been a problem with either. The website has received almost 2000 enquiries (only 1300 of which have been completed and submitted to the CAA) over the 12 week period, which is only a tiny percentage of the site capacity available. The Mode S inbox has received 1200 emails, and is emptied every working day to an offline folder. We have already received 40 responses this morning, so I sure that the server is working!"
