BGA Courses

2010 BGA Courses

We are pleased to present our programme for Assistant Instructor courses throughout 2010. The 2009 programme received an unprecedented response from clubs. Despite making more places available than in previous years, and subsequently adding additional courses, we struggled to meet demand. Prospective assistant instructors are, therefore, advised to book their 2010 courses as soon as possible (last year, almost all of the initially programmed places had been booked by April). Access to any BGA assistant instructor course other than that published below should be discussed with the National Coach.

All courses must be booked through the BGA office.

BGA coaching at locally organised club soaring and cross country courses can be arranged on an availability basis. Please initially contact the National Coach.

BGA Motor Glider Instructor Rating courses and CAA SLMG Flying Instructor courses can be organised for pilots wishing to gain those ratings. Details are available here.

Please note that the BGA does not provide beginners courses. Beginners should contact the club at which they wish to do a course and obtain details from them.

For more information, or to book a course, please email or phone the BGA office on 0116 2531051.

*This course will be operating for 10 days over two Mon-Fri periods ie no course activity over the middle weekend.

Last year the BGA ran an Assistant Rating course which ran for 10 days over two weeks, and excluded the middle weekend. This was an experiment in response to requests from members who struggled to be available for one or two consecutive weekends. This course turned out to be full, and the candidates enjoyed the experience due to the break from the course for the middle weekend, and the extra day to allow a little more leeway during the course.

The BGA always requests feedback from its courses, and the feedback received from the 9 day continuous courses often makes the point that there is a lot to fit in, and that participants wished that they had a bit more time and a break in the middle!

The BGA realises that two lots of 5 day holiday is untenable for some, and intends to continue to offer the 9 day one week option for the majority of courses. The advantages of the 10 day course are the availability of more time, the ability to have a rest in the middle of the course, and avoiding weekend rushes at clubs, which also gives more time to complete the course. Please don’t dismiss this option out of hand if you have the time.

A note for Teachers :- There should be at least two courses during School Holidays within these dates. Book early!

Assistant Instructor courses are normally limited to a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 candidates per course.

All Assistant Instructor courses must be booked through the BGA office. Email: office@gliding.co.uk Phone: 0116 253 1051
