Fuel Storage
A BGA club has recently installed and successfully licensed an above ground fuel storage facility. By meeting all known future regulation, they have helped ensure that they will not incur additional future expense. They have highlighted some areas of regulation that may be of use to other clubs in a similar situation, as follows:
- The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 (http://www.legislation.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2001/20012954.htm) sets our regulations that apply to fuel storage of quantities exceeding 200 litres.
- The Dangerous Substances Explosive Atmosphere Regulation (http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/65-49.htm) is currently being implemented in 3 stages, with the final stage embracing all existing fuel storage due 1 Sept 2005 .
- CAP 748 (http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP748.pdf) provides fuel storage guidance for licensed and unlicensed aerodromes. Clubs are advised to contact their local authority petroleum officer for licensing advice.
