Club Policies Guidance Pack

Introduction ¦ Your Club's Existing Policies ¦ The Pack

1. Introduction

A modern thinking club will have implemented an appropriate set of policies and will review them on a regular basis. Such a club is keenly aware of the duty of care that they have for their members, their visiting friends, family and guests and for members of the public that are either visiting the club, or affected by the club’s activities. They know that policies are important and that having a variety of policies and strategy statements in place is important for effective governance and management of their voluntary organisation.

The BGA has already seen that clubs that have implemented a full set of policies enjoy greater membership recruitment and retention, have higher numbers of pre-solo pilots, and are more successful in attracting external grant funding.

The BGA expects clubs to provide a safe environment where gliding can be recognised as a challenging, rewarding and accessible sport available to all. This is against a backdrop of a growing expectation from wider society in general for clubs and voluntary organisations to demonstrate good governance, good management and transparency.

This pack is designed to provide support for gliding club management committees. We hope you find them helpful, but they are not necessarily the only way of doing things. The pack is not designed to give a definitive answer; appropriately qualified professionals should be consulted when required. Neither is the pack designed to replace us; the Development Team remains available to advise or assist if you need further help.

Funding for the development and publication of this pack was secured under a scheme run by the CCPR on behalf of Sport England.

2. Your Club’s Existing Policies

Your club may already have some good policies, standards and procedures and you may well be perfectly satisfied that they are fit for your purposes. On that basis, please do stick with them.

Please could you consider a polite request to send copies to your Development Officer so that other clubs can benefit from your good practice?
