Introduction

As per rule 38 of the BGA Competition Ruleboook (2009) the results of all competitions that pilots have flown during 2009 are amalgamated to form the ratings list which will be used to prioritise entry into national competitions in 2010.

The amalgamation of the 30 competitions is an error prone process due to:

• The FAI competition license number supplied to the BGA with the competition results is not always correct.
• Pilots having the same surname and initial so they can not be distinguished.
• Data for pilots sharing a glider not being available.

The ratings list is published provisionally along with the spreadsheet used to calculate the ratings to allow pilots to check how their ratings were calculated and request clarifications or corrections where appropriate. There are some notes below on how pilots can check their ratings. It is important that pilots understand they do NOT have to understand the ratings system to be able to check their rating. See the instructions below. (There are different levels of instructions depending on your computer/ Microsoft Excel literacy rating.) The notes also include who to contact if a pilot finds an error.

If you have no interest in checking your rating and just want to find out where you are, you can see a quick ratings list here.

Finally if you do not intend to fly a Nationals next year then you do not need to worry about your rating as it is only used to give priority to Nationals if they are over-subscribed.

How to appeal
^

To enable the competitions priority lists for SY2010 to be drawn up we need pilots to lodge an appeal by the 1st of January, 2010. (This should allow the list to be finalised by the end of January in time for pilot selection.)

Email John Wilton (ratings2009@johnwilton.dialstart.net) with a summary of the problem.

A final note

If you study the spread sheet you will see that days of work have already gone into compiling it. There maybe errors in the spreadsheet, and have published it in an attempt to be as fair as possible. We are also human and could have made mistakes. Please help us by letting us know if you find an error (that affects you or anyone else).
