The Air League are holding a flying day for young people interested in all forms of flying. Reduced entry is available to all BGA junior pilots and friends. Oxford Aviation Academy and RAF recruiters will be in attendance. In addition, the Air League Educational Trust, GAPAN, Air CAdets and Scouts will be on hand to explain about all elements of flying. To compliment the information on offer, experts from across the aviation industry will be on hand to answer any questions you may have on training or aviation careers. In addition, you can visit the museum and there will be lectures from the Fighter Pilots of The RAF..... a day not to miss. (Air League members get free entry and free flying). See www.airleague.co.uk for details. If you are serious about a flying career you should be there.
Competition Enterprise Scholarship 8th June 2009
Since 2002, a legacy left by John Fielden has helped two junior pilots each year to fly in Competition Enterprise at minimal cost. This year, because the competition is being held at a predominantly winch launch site (Midland GC on the Long Mynd), the funds are able to support 4 young pilots. Three of the available awards have now been made, but one remains. If you are under 26 and would like financial assistance to compete in this competition with a difference (more details on the MGC web site) you need to act fast! Available is a maximum subsidy of £175 per pilot split as follows: £35 - 50% of entry fee (normal Junior price is £65); £90 – Launches (If all of these are by winch, any surplus can go to travel costs); £50 – travel/transport. To apply, email Jon Hart explaining why you should be considered, giving your personal and flying details.
Applications for the Scholarship must be received by June 14th. Applicants will be informed of the decision within a week of that date. In addition, even if you are not in receipt of a scholarship, all pilots under 26 are entitled to half-price entry to the competition.

Junior Cross Country Coaching 1st June 2009
The BGA is providing a small number of places on a junior cross country course being run alongside the Junior Championships by Mike Fox with supporting coaches. Aspiring young pilots who have their Bronze badge are invited to apply for a place on this BGA funded course, to be held at the London Gliding Club, Dunstable, 22-30 August. Please submit an application in writing, giving your age, gliding experience, home club, a good reason why you should have one of the very limited places on the course and confirmation that you can definitely attend. Signed applications should be clearly marked ‘Junior Coaching Application’ and sent to the BGA office.
In addition to the limited number of course places, BGA clubs are invited to join this BGA course with their own two seat glider and with a suitably experienced coach to fly one or more of their own Junior pilots. It’s a bit easier for all to teach cross country flying with lots of markers on track and other experts on hand for briefing and debriefing. And, importantly, the more people that get involved, the more fun everyone will have! Clubs can contact Pete Stratten by email for more details including available funding.
