Flying Overseas Advice

France

Advice re flying in S France is available here. Please note that some DGAC regions may have a different, less stringent, local interpretation of the requirements described in the supplied information sheet. It is recommended that pilots check with the destination club beforehand. However, if the guidance is followed, then DGAC approval should be given.

The Provence area DGAC may require governing body (eg BGA) verification of any pilot certification. If you need this verification to be carried out on your behalf, please contact the BGA office.

Pleae also note that some clubs may manage the DGAC administration and payment for you. The BGA advice is to ask the club you intend to visit.

Spain

The Spanish require all gliders based in Spain to be Spanish registered. Pilots of Spanish registered gliders must be licensed. More detail is available at correo@aerodromojaca.com

UK glider pilots can validate UK certificates to enable them to fly Spanish gliders. This is best achieved through the club that you plan to visit. You will need to send/take with you to the club in Spain;

  • Original JAR class 1 or 2 medical certificate
  • Photocopy of your passport
  • BGA Pilot Certificate (see below)
  • Signed application form (obtained from the club you are visiting)

To obtain the BGA Pilot Certificate please contact the BGA office by email or letter making it clear what you need. You must include a scanned copy by email or photocopy by post of the following documents;

  • Copy of the most recent 12 months of flying recorded in your logbook signed by your CFI
  • Copy of your passport

The BGA office will email you a document that you should then submit to the club that you are visiting in Spain.

USA

Information Sheet - Flying in the USA

Other Countries

The best advice is to seek guidance regarding licence and medical requirements from a reliable source at the club you plan to visit. If in doubt, contact the national aviation authority of the country in question.
