ANNEX G Yorkshire Gliding Areas Effective: 7th December 2013 Annex G describes the TRA(G) airspace which is jointly accessible by the York Gliding Centre (Rufforth), the Yorkshire Gliding Club (Sutton Bank), RAFGSA (Cleveland), Burn Gliding Club and Wolds Gliding Club (Pocklington) and the procedures for entry thereto. Maps are displayed on pages G4 and G5. G.1. AIRSPACE G.1.1 The York Gliding Centre, Yorkshire Gliding Club, RAFGSA (Cleveland), Burn Gliding Club and Wolds Gliding Club (Pocklington) have the authority to request activation of the following TRA(G)s after consultation with the Scottish AC (Prestwick) Operations Supervisor who shall in turn coordinate with the LATCC (Mil) East Supervisor. The LATCC (Mil) East Supervisor shall inform BAE Systems Warton of any activation and de-activation of the areas. GENERAL PROCEDURES G.2.1 Operations within TRA(G) shall be conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Access arrangements and VMC minima for glider access to TRA(G) are published in the UK AIP. Activation of a NATS/LATCC (Mil)/BGA/BAE Warton (TRA(G)s) LoA 07/12/13 Annex G G-1 TRA(G) for glider activity does not preclude VFR operations within that area by other traffic. G.2.2 These areas can only be activated at weekends and on English Public Holidays. G.2.3 These areas can only be activated during daylight hours. G.2.4 ATC may provide a Basic Service to aircraft within an active lower TRA(G). The responsibility for collision avoidance shall rest entirely with the pilots in accordance with the Rules of the Air. A Basic Service may be available, subject to workload, from LATCC (Mil) on frequency 135.075 MHz. G.2.5 When within an active TRA(G), FL240 and below, any glider pilot not accepting a Basic Service shall monitor frequency 130.1MHz. G.2.6 When operating above FL240 in the Yorkshire Upper Gliding Areas, LATCC (Mil) shall provide a Basic Service in accordance with the procedures in the UK AIP. G.2.7 When TRA(G)s are activated, Scottish AC (Prestwick), LATCC (Mil) and BAE Systems Warton shall not allow IFR traffic to transit the TRA(G) at the levels reserved for TRA(G) activation. Additionally, Scottish AC (Prestwick), LATCC (Mil) and BAE Systems Warton shall not allow IFR traffic to operate within 5nm of the edge of an activated TRA(G). There may be instances, such as an emergency, when IFR traffic may be required to transit an active TRA(G). In such circumstances the Scottish AC (Prestwick) Operations Supervisor shall endeavour to close the TRA(G) through telephone with the operating club and through relayed transmissions on the appropriate gliding frequency. G.2.8 Transponder equipped gliders should squawk 7006 when operating above FL195 unless allocated a specific squawk by ATC. G.2.9 The York Gliding Centre, the Yorkshire Gliding Club, RAFGSA (Clevelands), Burn Gliding Club and Wolds Gliding Club (Pocklington) can activate the TRA(G)s. If a TRA(G) has been activated and a subsequent request for activation is received from another club, the Scottish AC (Prestwick) Operations Supervisor shall advise the second club of the current activity. During multiple activations of a TRA(G), the Scottish AC (Prestwick) Operations Supervisor and the LATCC (Mil) East Supervisor shall promulgate the TRA(G) activity from the earliest activation to the latest notified de-activation time. The TRA(G) will be assumed active within these time periods unless notification has been received by phone of closure of activity from ALL clubs operating in the airspace that day.
