As most will already be aware, the requirement to hold a Part-FCL licence has been deferred until 2018. When this was announced, the BGA stated that it would engage with the CAA to ensure that any pilot who had already converted to a Part-FCL licence would not be disadvantaged. The CAA has now issued a derogation, effective 1st January 2015, which allows pilots holding a Part-FCL licence to continue to fly under UK national legislation if they chose to do so. The derogation is effective until 8th April 2015 when the next amendment to the Aircrew Regulation comes into force, at which point a further derogation covering the period to 2018 will be issued. This means that during the period to April 2018, pilots holding a Part-FCL licence (LAPL(S) or SPL) can choose to revert to BGA qualifications and associated BGA medical standards, including gaining and exercising the privileges of a BGA instructor (including Basic instructor). Obviously, any pilot who wishes to exercise the privileges of their Part-FCL licence must continue to meet the requirements associated with that licence including recency and medical requirements. Pilots who have not yet converted to a Part-FCL licence may now wish to do so knowing that they will not be disadvantaged and that they will have the licence on hand should they wish, for example, to fly elsewhere in Europe during the next few years. Details of the derogation are at http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/ORS4No1075.pdf Competitions and Cross-Country BGA Trophies. The winners of BGA trophies for flights achieved in 2014 have been announced. The list of winners is at http://www.gliding.co.uk/bgainfo/competitions/trophies.htm Inter-Services Regionals. The ISRGC will be held this year at RAF Cosford from 29th August to 6th September. As always, entries from civilians are welcome. General Email Issues. If you have been affected, please accept our apologies. If you have missed past issues of the newsletter, you can catch up via the archive at http://www.gliding.co.uk/bgainfo/notices/newsletters.htm.
