BGA Simulator 2013 BGA SIMULATOR - OPERATING INFORMATION General The simulator may only be used by BGA club members, staff and volunteers in accordance with the applicable Terms and Conditions for use. Print this information and keep it with the simulator while you are using it. Safety First The simulator should only be towed with a suitable vehicle. Maximum towing speed 60 mph Apply the handbrake when the trailer is parked Only deploy the simulator on level ground Operating the winch can be physically demanding. The winch has a slip clutch to allow a wind in ratchet to operate. Take extreme care when using the winch to unload and load the simulator There is a trapping risk associated with unloading and loading the trailer - keep hands and feet clear. Do not stand in front of the simulator as it rolls out of the trailer The simulator uses mains voltage. Take appropriate precautions. In the event of a fire or other emergency, consider isolating the power at the mains supply How to Unload the Trailer Park, apply handbrake and fully elevate the front of the trailer. Open rear (large) door (two people) - caution when lowering the ramp to the floor Open front (small) door Turn the winch handle. There is no ‘release’ catch. Expect the movement to be stiff at first as the clutch releases. Allow the simulator to roll down as you unwind until it’s clear of the ramp.  NB 1 - you may need to use a second person to ‘wiggle’ the simulator as it descends, and to check that the side TV screen supports (if fitted) do not get caught on exit  Caution - keep hands and feet clear as the simulator moves down the ramp. Don’t stand in front of the simulator. Think safety Once unloaded, unhook the cable from the simulator and position the simulator How to Load the Trailer Check that the simulator is correctly wrapped up, that the power lead has been unplugged and stowed and that the keys are removed Remove the external side screens (if fitted), stow correctly and secure in the trailer BGA Simulator 2013 Fold in the side steps. Take care with hands and fingers Ensure castoring wheels at each end are unlocked Position the simulator square to the ramp and connect the winch cable Winch the simulator into the trailer  NB 1 - you will need to use a second person to guide the rear of the simulator  NB 2 - when each set of wheels meets the ramp, the second person will need to momentarily push the simulator as it is winched in. When the simulator is nearly fully loaded please take extra care to ensure that it does not catch on any of the TV screens, etc Ensure the simulator engages with the two guide pins at the front (small door end) floor of the trailer Close the rear door and tighten (not over tighten!) the screw locks Shut & lock the front door Check that you have the keys and secure them!! Using the Simulator Unlatch & fold out the main screens Fold out the main steps – take care with hands and fingers If available, fit the side screens to the brackets, plugging in the HDMI lead to HDMI 1 and the 240v supply. Take care that the brackets are correctly located Unravel and check the 240v power supply lead for damage. If no damage, plug into the mains. Turn mains power on Put key into the simulator and follow the instructions alongside the key slot Turn both computers on – there is an instrument PC and main PC. The access points to turn on both PC’s are at the rear end of the simulator Allow PCs to boot up Instrument panels will boot up automatically Eventually all three main screens will light up and appear as a three screen desktop Click on Condor and follow the screen menus (the keyboard has a ball mouse on the right – enter is a button top left of the keyboard) Turn on the sound press the large circular button near the headset box BGA Simulator 2013 How to turn off the simulator Shut down the PCs ie on the desktop click ‘Start’ and ‘Shutdown’ Follow the instructions near the key Turn power off Carefully stow the mains lead Software If you don’t know what you are doing with Condor software, please consult someone who does - please do not fiddle around with settings you do not understand. Faults/Malfunction If the system does not recover from a reboot, allow the system to sit for 15 secs before trying again Under no circumstances are users to dismantle the simulator or attempt repairs or attempt to modify software without the express permission of the BGA If a problem persists, a BGA volunteer, Michael Cudmore, who has helped to develop the simulator, may be available to offer advice by phone. 07824 663821. Log any faults and following use of the simulator please report them by email to Debbie@gliding.co.uk Finally Please while enjoying the simulator remember that someone else will need to use it after you have finished. So please treat it as yours – your club has a share in it, after all. Take care, think before you act, keep it clean & tidy and report any problems asap. End.
