BGA Trophy Rules The following rules apply to all flights counting towards any BGA award or trophy: - All flights must originate in the UK. - The Trophy/Award year runs from 1st January & 31st December. - All trophy/award claims must be submitted to the BGA Competitions Committee by the 6th January of the subsequent year. BGA Performance Trophies The following trophies are regulated, awarded by and require application to the BGA Competitions & Awards Committee. The following rules apply to all the BGA Performance Trophies & Awards: i. All Speed & distance trophies will be nil-wind handicapped (ref BGA Handbook) ii. All flights are subject to a 1000m height difference limit between start & finish. Where a declaration/log shows a difference greater than 1000m a 1% distance penalty shall be applied i.e. 1km distance penalty for every 10m over 1000m. iii. All flights require a secure IGC logger iv. FAI sectors or ½km barrels are allowed for turn points. v. If ½km barrels are used a distance penalty [penalty = 1km x ‘total no. of task turn points’] shall be applied. (Not including start or finish). The type of turn point doesn’t need to be predeclared. The penalty shall apply to all turn points if the ½km barrel is used to define any turn. vi. Start or finish can be defined as FAI Sector, ½km barrel or 12km perpendicular line. In the case of ½km barrel being used task distance should be measured from the edge of the barrel and not the centre point. The type of start/finish sector being used does not need to be predeclared. Declared b. As per FAI 25%/45% Triangle [no LEG of the triangle may have a length of less than 25% or more than 45% of the official distance] Frank Foster Trophy Fastest handicapped 500km a. Declared b. Up to 3 tp’s California in England Cup Longest handicapped flight by a female pilot a. Free distance up to 4 tp’s Manio Cup Fastest handicapped 300km a. Declared b. Up to 3 tp’s De Havilland Trophy Greatest Gain of Height Volk Trophy Longest handicapped out & return a. Free distance b. Closed course (Start & Finish are the same point) Seager Trophy Longest handicapped distance in a two-seater a. Free distance b. Up to 4 tp’s c. 2 persons on board BGA National Ladder Trophies The following trophies are regulated and awarded by the BGA Competitions & Awards Committee, following the rules laid down by the BGA National Ladder.
