Airworthiness Directive D-2005-239 Luftfahrt-Bundesamt Airworthiness Directive Section Hermann-Blenk-Str. 26 38108 Braunschweig GERMANY SCHEMPP-HIRTH Affected: Kind of aeronautical product: Manufacturer: Type: Models affected: Serial Numbers affected: German Type Certificate No.: Effective Date: 22 July 2005 Sailplane Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau GmbH, Kirchheim/Teck, Germany Nimbus-2 and Mini Nimbus HS 7 Sailplane (TC-No. 286): Nimbus-2C, Serial Nos: 166, 177 through 181 and 185 through 236 Sailplanes (TC-No. 328): Mini Nimbus-HS7, all serial numbers Mini Nimbus B, all serial numbers Mini Nimbus C, all serial numbers see under rubric “Models affected” 286 and 328 Subject: Failure of flap drive mechanism in the fuselage due to cracking of a weld joint. Reason: During the daily check after assembling a Mini Nimbus C a failure in the flap actuating circuit was found. An investigation showed that the lever at the torsional drive in the fuselage failed at the weld joint. Because of the equal design of the torsional drive the sailplane Nimbus-2C is affected too. The actions specified by this Airworthiness Directive are intended to prevent a failure in the flap actuating circuit which could result in reduced controllability of the sailplane. Action: In the scope of this airworthiness directive a reinforcement of the flap drive has to be accomplished in accordance with the following drawings Nimbus-2C, title „Reinforcement flap drive” drawing no. 10.065/3 Mini Nimbus HS7, Mini Nimbus B and Mini Nimbus C, title „Reinforcement flap drive” drawing no. HS7 - 10.083/1 and in the accordance with the appendix of the referenced technical note of the manufacturer. All necessary actions must be performed on the basis of the referenced technical note of the manufacturer. Compliance: Alle necessary actions must be accomplished at the next annual inspection but not later than 31 December 2005.
