British Gliding Association Aircraft Inspection Mandatory Number: 004/08/2000 Issue: 2 Date: 11 December 2009 Subject: Elevator Control Arms Applicability: Schleicher K13, K8 and other Schleicher types using plate alloy elevator control arms Accomplishment: At each annual inspections or if Elevators are misaligned. Reason: Bending of elevator control arms due to possible manufacture using incorrect material. Instructions: At each annual inspection carry out visual inspection, if any bending is suspected carry out the following; 1/ Remove horizontal tailplane complete with elevators. 2/ Using a steel rule check the elevator control arms are not bent forward, aft or sidewise. Note: The trim tab side control arm tends to bend first. 3/ Any control arms found bent are cause for rejection and must be replaced before further flight with a genuine Schleicher item. 4/ Refit horizontal tailplane. 5/ Make log book entry to show compliance with this inspection 6/ Please report any rejected parts to the BGA and retain for inspection.
