British Gliding Association Aircraft Inspection Recommended Number: 027/04/2002 Date: 24th May 2002 Issue: 1 Subject: Vertical Elevator Actuating Rod inside Fin Applicability: Schempp-Hirth Janus B, C, Ce, CM, CT, Ventus a, b, c, bT, cT, cM, Nimbus 2B, 2C, 3, 3D, 3T, DT, DM, Discus a, b, CS, bT, Std. Cirrus, Mini Nimbus B, C as detailed in AD 92-360/2. If AD 92-360/2 has been fully complied with by replacement of the rod then this inspection is not applicable Accomplishment: At next Annual C of A inspection. Reason: Some concessions have been granted to internally inhibit the vertical rod in lieu of replacement. It appears that water can still accumulate inside the rod. Instructions: Remove vertical elevator rod IAW instructions in TN 809-9, inspect for water ingress, check for drain holes. If drain holes are present and no water – re-inhibit rod and replace. If no drain holes are present and no water – drill drain holes, re-inhibit and replace. (UK agents will be able to advise on the location of drain holes) If water is present – Replace rod IAW AD 92-360/2 as internal corrosion cannot be ruled out.
