British Gliding Association Aircraft Inspection Mandatory Number: 033/11/2002 Issue: 1 Date: 5 November 2002 Subject: Air brake Control – handle security Applicability: Centrair 201 Marianne Accomplishment: At next C of A inspection Reason: The grip on the airbrake handle at the forward cockpit position, slid off and allowed the air brake handle shaft to jam in the trimmer slot. Instructions: 1/ Inspect forward position airbrake handle rubber grip for splits and that the grip is tight on the shaft. If splits are found or the grip is loose, the rubber grip must be replaced. 2/ On the side of the grip drill and countersink the rubber grip and shaft to accept a No 8 x ½” self tapping screw at a position 60mm down from the cross tube on the centreline of the handle shaft (see drawing 1) 3/ Install self-tapping screw ensuring no sharp edges on the handle. 4/ Optionally the grip may be bonded to the shaft with epoxy adhesive in addition to the retaining screw to give additional security. 5/ Record compliance in the glider log book. Note: The aft position air brake control and other Centrair aircraft utilise the same control components but are not subject to this inspection by virtue of the cockpit design and layout.
