British Gliding Association Aircraft Inspection Mandatory Number: BGA 038/10/2003 Issue: 1 Date: 29 October 2003 Subject: Wing Rear Spar Fittings Applicability: Bocian-9bis series gliders Accomplishment: at 1200 hours and repeat every 50 hours or after heavy landing or ground loop type incident where the rear fittings may have experienced excessive loads. Reason: The rear wing fittings are required to be replaced at 1200 hours I.A.W. Service Bulletin BE 018/80. BGA operational experience has not identified a problem in service with these fittings and The BGA is prepared to allow these fittings to remain in service ‘on condition’ provided the following inspections are complied with. Replacement of the fittings I.A.W BE 018/80 permanently satisfies the requirement of this inspection. Instructions: With the aircraft de-rigged 1. Accomplish Service Bulletin BE 009/77 Opening of inspection hole in wing root. 2. Using the 200 hour inspection programme 2.3.0. sketch No 4. as a guide (BE 020/80), remove paint from both rear spar fittings 3. Inspect for cracks using a X5 magnifying glass If any cracks are found the fittings on both wings must be replaced before further flight (BE 018/80) 4. Re-protect rear wing fittings 5. Record compliance in the glider log book Repeat the inspection every 50 flying hours or until the fittings are replaced I.A.W. SB 018/80.
