British Gliding Association Aircraft Inspection Number: 049/05/2010 Mandatory Date: 10 May 2010 Issue: 1 Subject: Aileron actuating shaft inspection/modification Applicability: Glasflugal Standard Libelle, Standard Libelle 201B, Standard Libelle 203 Accomplishment: Before flight Inspection if any abnormal loads are experienced in flight or on the ground. Modification or replacement with modified type before/at next Annual Inspection If a modified actuating shaft is installed no further action is required. Reason: BGA procedures previously allowed continued operation of non modified actuating shafts subject to repeat annual inspection. That procedure has now been withdrawn and full compliance with LBA AD 1996-116 and TN 201-33 is required at next annual inspection. Instructions: If the glider is subject to any abnormal loads either from failure to disconnect the ailerons when de-rigging, excessive aileron ground handling loads or excessive flight or landing loads. Inspect the aileron actuating shaft in accordance with H. Streifeneder technical note TN 201-33. If any cracks or breakages are found the shaft must be replaced (although it is permissible to repair cracks according to the TN, it is not recommended because a cracked joint will have been subject to fatigue) Serviceable shafts must be replaced or modified before/at the next annual inspection. (drawing in TN 201-33) On completion certify log book as compliance with LBA AD 1996-116. Approved By Jim Hammerton, Chief Technical Officer Issued by - The British Gliding Association Ltd, Kimberley House, Vaughan Way, Leicester, LE1 4SE, U.K. Note: Mandatory inspections must be recorded in the aircraft log book, unless specified, and certified by an appropriately rated BGA inspector. Optional inspections should be entered into the D.I. book or log book as appropriate. Optional inspections may be certified by a BGA Pilot. Alternative methods of compliance will be considered providing an equal level of safety is accomplished. Contact BGA for authorisation.
