BGA Post Instructor Course Review -1 V2.0 Introduction. This post course review is an integral part of BGA instructor training. It exists to add a small amount of content, but its main purpose is to ‘follow up’ the new instructor to ensure that their initial instruction experiences are positive ones for student and instructor alike. Conduct BGA instructor post course reviews are conducted by BGA Regional Examiners. Entry Requirements To have completed a BGA Modular Instructor course and carried out instruction to the BGA training syllabus under supervision. Pre-Course Preparation Reference material – BGA instructor manual, BGA Theory of flight manual. BGA Bronze syllabus. Timings The post course review should be carried out between 12 and 18 months of the end of your BGA instructor course and specifically dated from the successful flight test. An exemption must be sought from the Chairman of the BGA instructor committee if 18 months is likely to be exceeded. Exemptions are only issued when a firm date for the review exists. If no exemption is in place and 18 months is exceeded, the individual may no longer instruct within the BGA system. The Post-Course review This review should normally be carried out during one day with a 2:1 examiner / instructor ratio. Syllabus 1. A review of the candidates instructing since the modular course a. Challenging situations requiring referral to supervising instructor b. Feedback to the BGA on the Assistant instructor course content 2. A review of ‘topical’ safety initiatives and new information 3. A refresher for any flying exercises that the candidate wishes 4. A refresher of the ‘safety critical’ flying exercises a. Correct teaching of winch launching and failures of available onsite launch method b. Correct teaching of stalling and spinning c. Correct lookout and teaching techniques 5. Airfield supervision discussion a. Responsibilities b. Examples of accidents that have a supervision breakdown. Flight Much of the post course review can be carried out in discussion on the ground. However, a reasonable number of launches must be carried out to ensure the minimum safety content is covered. It is not appropriate to specify flying amounts due to the differing launch methods and possible soaring opportunities at clubs. Administration On completion of the review, the BGA form 4 should be completed and sent to the BGA office. -2 V2.0
