Another Great World Championship Result for British Gliding Team

The British Team finished the second and final series of the 2014 World Gliding Championships at Leszno in Poland at the end of August  by repeating the success achieved the previous month in Finland. After two weeks of competition, during which the 15m, 18m and Open Classes were decided, the team won the overall Team Cup, with Germany and France coming second and third.

The Team Cup victory made it two wins out of a possible two for the British Team, following the Team Cup victory in the earlier series of events  for the Standard, Club and 20m classes, confirming the UK’s position as the nation to beat.

All in all, 2014 was a great world championship year for the British team. As well as the two team trophies, team members put in a series of superb individual performances, including gold for brothers Steve and Howard Jones in the 20m two-seater class, and a silver in the Open Class for two-time world champion, Andy Davis. There was a bronze in the Standard Class for ex-World Junior Champion Jez Hood who just pipped his brother Richard for the medal.
